During my certification practicum, I did a science unit on Beavers. This was one of my favourite unit plans because I had the students learn about Beavers through hands-on experiences such as building a beaver’s habitat and building a dam and testing it to see if it held back water.

Here are some pictures of the students work that I displayed on the bulletin board! The first photo is from September, I traced the students arm and they cut it out and it says “Who’s ready for a great year?”. The second photo is from a science unit on Beavers. The students painted a beaver’s habitat on paper plates.

During my certification practicum, I implemented a math learning centre into my addition/subtraction math unit. Throughout the unit, I introduced a math game every Friday and then after the 5th Friday, I set up each game at a table group and had the students rotate through the 5 math games at 5 minute intervals. The students really enjoyed this activity!
